Biogeografic region: Amazonia, Andean, Caribbean, Pacific. Elevation range: 20–2350 m a.s.l. Cultivated in Colombia. Colombian departments: Amazonas, Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Cesar, Chocó, Cundinamarca, La Guajira, Magdalena, Santander, Tolima, Valle del Cauca.
