Biogeografic region: Amazonia, Andean, Orinoquia, Pacific. Elevation range: 100–2200 m a.s.l. Cultivated in Colombia. Native to Colombia. Colombian departments: Amazonas, Antioquia, Caquetá, Cauca, Chocó, Cundinamarca, Guainía, Nariño, Putumayo, Valle del Cauca, Vaupés, Vichada.
